Immediately around the property is the Mitzela forest which the current owners have a stake in. This is one of the few privately owned forests in Greece it is around 8000 acres.
The lower slopes are steep and have numerous gullies carved out by the winter rains. The vegetation is lush and varied and includes Judus and sipero bushes, Oak Chestnut and plain trees. The forest was approached by a naturalist to do a 25 year study on this unique habitat, but unfortunately the promised funding never materialised.
Hidden in the bushes all around the property are the crumbling terraced walls of the old village of Mitzela. If you journey up the mountain still in the Mitzela forest there are little hidden chapels that are used for local festivals. We have an ongoing project of opening up some of the old mule tracks to make attractive walks.
